"My beloved spake, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away. For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone; The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land" Song of Songs 2: 10-12.
At the first signs of spring I am reminded of our key passage. We are
always glad to see the winter pass because it is often gloomy and cold,
not conducive to growth. It is often a time of testing and trials. We
look forward to it being over, especially when it has been a harsh
winter both physically and spiritually speaking.
It's a time we find ourselves shut in with threats of snow, ice, and bitter cold. It is also often a season when people deal with depression because of the dark days and enclosure.
Spring is the opposite and promises a season of resurrection life once again. The flowers spring forth and the birds sing a happy song. In verse 12 it says "turtle" in the King James Version but in the Amplified it says "turtledove". Don't you just love to hear the cooing of the turtledove as they sense the coming of Spring? There is newness of life and the hope of new beginnings. You can just feel it in the air and begin to see people come out of their houses and begin to be energized.
Are you coming out of a winter of trials and testing? Do you sense there is a new beginning in the future as you emerge from the winter conditions of life? It may not be your favorite season but it has it's purpose.
Will you choose to sing a new song of praise to the Lord for seeing you through the winter conditions? Will you rise up and follow Him into your season of new growth with the hope of new life it brings. Christ has risen and has triumphed over every difficulty you have ever faced.
