Day 17

Gods kind of comfort

“All praise to the God and Father of our master, Jesus the Messiah! Father of all mercy! God of all healing consumed! He comes alongside is when we go through hard times, and before you know it He brings us alongside someone else who is going through, hard times so that we can be there that person just as God was for us.” 2nd Corinthians 1:3-4

Several years ago I took some mothers and wives to a retreat held by Kairos ministry. Every attendee had a loved one in prison and came from a variety of locations.

There was one mother in our cabin who slept in a bunk close to me. She got ready for bed then immediately rolled over with her back to the group and curled up in a fetal position. I felt led to go over and speak to her despite the wall she had erected. She turned over and her pain spewed out much like an infected sore would when pricked. She showed me a picture of her daughter as tears began to roll down her cheeks. I could tell she had experienced a lot of pains that she had kept inside. It was a time of healing as I listened over the weekend. Sometimes all it took was and understanding glance, a touch on the shoulder, or the embrace of someone she knew had been there. How is God calling you to reach out to someone, to comfort another the way the Lord has comforted you. You don’t have to waitl until you get through your own pain, you can minister to someone else in the midst of your heartache. Look beyond yourself and choose to bring comfort.
