Day 24

God is Near to the Brokenhearted

“The Lord is close to those whose hearts are breaking…” Psalm 34.18a  The Living Bible

Many times pain and grief came our way because we didn’t know where our son was.  Was he alive or dead? Was he in a safe place or would we receive the dreaded call in the middle of the night or have to answer the door to difficult news?  A candle was always lit in the front window in hope he would know we were waiting for him to come home.  I would stand at the window praying that next car lights would turn in our driveway.

Is this where you find yourself today?  Recently I read:  “Sometimes a parent grieves the loss of a child who is still alive”.  So True!  We had seemingly lost our son to drugs, to the world.  Would this pain and sense of loss ever change, ever be redeemed?  Would we ever be just a “normal family”?  What is normal anyway?!

Always remember God’s promise to be near the brokenhearted.  Thank Him for His faithfulness and know he grieves with you.
